As we watched the show the entertainment was great! We laughed and enjoyed the music, dancing, and quality acting. Then the show started coming to an end. This is where I became very disappointed. Call me old fashion, but the lack of morals in the show hit too close to home in my family and the world we live in.
The show starts with the daughter telling about these three men that her mother had a "summer romance" with. There was only one of the three men that the mother truly loved. Then throughout the movie the daughter continually has to convince people that she truly loves the man she is going to marry. So naturally you think that the mother and the daughter will end up having a double wedding. Well, not so...
The daughter gets to the alter, the secret of the fact that her mom doesn't know who her daughter's real father is gets all cleared up, and suddenly the daughter decides that she no longer NEEDS to get married. The daughter's Love wraps her in his arms and says in essence ahhh, we're too young to get married, let's just travel the world together first! Then the mother's Love announces that he still loves her, and she reveals her love for him, and they get married instead.
HERE IS MY QUESTION: The daughter and her fiance loved each other just as much as the mother and her Love loved each other, Why Not BOTH Get Married!? What is the difference between the two relationships? This is a SERIOUS question that I NEED some feedback on! Why does a couple who loves each other as much as a married man and wife decide Not to get married! WHY!!!???? I need some insite. I'm not standing to judge, it is honestly something that I don't understand and I am trying to figure out...

Lena, I had the same quesitons as you. When I watched the show I was disappointed also. I agree that the better choice for them was to get married. I felt a great disappointment at the end of the show, and I felt almost heartbroken that a show that had such great reviews and so many people I know recommended it to me would teach that such a choice is the best, where to me seemed to teach morals that I don't agree with. I have some same questions as you. I am glad to hear someone who feels the same as me.
Thanks for your post.
BJC, is actually me Lena, sorry.
Hey Lena - I thought the same thing. I do not like it because she just did it for him and it just makes it seem like it's OK to run off together without getting married. Here's she's giving all her reasons to her mom for marrying him all this time and then she ends up running off. Kind of crazy. Not that it would have taken the ending out, but I sure miss CleanFlicks for some additional things that needing editing out.
I must disagree, I loved it! Fun, fun, fun and nothing more than fun! Of course, I love musicals. I wish Hollywood would see they had a nice hit with Mamma Mia and produce more shows that were fun and happy rather than sad, depressing, scary, stupid dramas. I don't think Mamma Mia was trying to "teach" anything. It was just plain fun.
It's been awhile since I've seen the movie but I also was dissapointed. There were so many parts that were morally wrong! This is just a guess but from what I remembered in the movie was that the young girl wanted to go explore see things and go to college etc. I think they wern't ready for marriage yet.
Lena,
I'm like you it lacked it morals and to me understand. Why was so important at the begginning of the movie and later not? Having watched a few broadway musicals and leaving the theater with the same questions as what was the point of that? I think often times with one group themed broadway musicals the writers try to fit all the groups greatest hits in one production, unfortunely sometimes it doesn't lead to a good plot/ moral in the end.
Marianne
I didn't see the movie but I imagine that the rest of the world has a different view of marriage than we do. For people of the LDS faith it is finding someone you want to be with for eternity for many it it just the formalizing of a more casual relationship. The idea seems to be lets see if it works out first then at the first signs of trouble we can bail out without all the legal hangups. This is really sad because they miss the growing and strengthening of love that comes when you disagree but know that you are in this together and have to make it work out to the better.
